Short Bio
After a rewarding career in design and production management for apparel and consumer goods, I made an exciting pivot to the arts a year ago. This journey has opened doors to creating artwork for gallery exhibits, public art installations, music festival stage art, featured articles in Art Business News and a special art project for an Arizona fire station! Grateful for this new path, I'm also focused on giving back by writing and reviewing grants for the arts, building an art space for fellow artists and serving on a gallery board. My experience in project management of multi-million dollar projects in my previous career has been extremely helpful in this art journey. I am looking forward to new and exciting experiences in the arts.
Statement
I love experimenting with both traditional and contemporary media in my paintings. Influenced by the stunning landscapes of land, sea, and desert, my design background offers me a unique perspective that shapes my work. Painting is my meditation, where I lose track of time, allowing colors and emotions to guide me. I enjoy layering different mediums—from canvas to digital—creating depth and inviting viewers into their own visual experiences. Currently, I'm exploring new textures by blending paint with textiles at my studio in an airplane hangar at Yucca Valley Airport, inspired by the beauty of both Solana Beach and Yucca Valley.
Biography
Most of my career involved designing and producing apparel and products for brands, including my name sake brand “sherri scott” that sold to department stores. These designs and products were sold throughout the U.S. and Europe. A couple of my favorite projects was creating designs for the Mexico Olympic Triathlon Team and an apparel project for the National Parks Association.
I loved this career and felt fortunate to be surrounded by beautiful fabrics, trims, and an amazing cast of skilled artisans to create products. During my travels to factories and suppliers in the US and Europe, I always took pictures of details or things that would catch my eye. These images are now a treasure trove of inspiration for my art. My background in design gives me a unique perspective to use in my artwork, and am excited to blend my knowledge of design with painting in textiles.
